🍇 💓 A Fruitful February at Dock St.

Dock St. has had a fruitful February. This month, they celebrated black history month by curating a black history collage as a community-building activity, honored Valentine's Day with themed outfits, and began the Production of a music video for a song from their recent album. The excitement did not stop there! Curated by Program Director Sanette, the launch of a new self-care series activity is coming to the Dock St. program. This is a brand new activity at BCCP which has not yet been explored. Sanette has developed an intricate outline that includes but is not limited to exploring the concepts of internal and external self-care, mindfulness, self-esteem, skincare, and cosmetology. The participants who signed up for the activity are eager to begin. In preparation for the new class, students have begun curating a self-care diagram outlining what self-care means to them. Our newest Group leader Kayla will be teaching the self-care activity with some assistance from Sanette.

Conquering Stage Fright and Planning for College 🎤
Robeson High School
Conquering fears of stage fright, Ms. Simms and Ms. Jade took their students on a trip to Lakou Cafe in Brooklyn for the teen open mic night. We are always excited to gloat about our students, and this just gives us another reason. Here's an exclusive look at the spoken word our students shared. Let's give them a round of applause and encourage them to share more. 👏

🎓 21st Century Programs
W.A.T.C.H and Olympus Academy host our 21st-century after-school programs. We are in the process of launching our programs and building activities and communities on these campuses.
W.A.T.C.H. is keeping busy with upcycling clothing pieces and turning them into original designs. To further their exploration of Fashion, Teaching Artist Gabriela is taking her students on a trip to the FIT Museum to explore the Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition.

Olympus Academy
With efforts from our newest program director Alycea, Olympus Academy is launching the newest 21st-century afterschool program. 👏 The program is expanding on some of the activities we already offer and building on interests such as debate, tech, leadership, wellness, and art. We are looking forward to seeing what the Olympus students create!
Take a Breather! - Give your mind some love
4-7-8 Breathing Technique

We know the world can be overwhelming–we want to remind you to take a moment to prioritize your mental health. The 4-7-8 technique is something you can incorporate into your daily routine to help balance your mind and body while also reducing stress and improving your sleep.
Take a moment in your day to try this technique. Inhale through your nose and count to 4 – focus on filling your belly with air rather than your chest. Hold your breath and count to 7. Audibly exhale for 8 counts –imagine you are blowing out a candle. Do this as many times as you feel necessary!
